Select Paper

Paper 1 (CBT)

Paper-1 (CBT) in Punjab Police Constable Recruitment is an online objective exam that tests candidates on general awareness, reasoning, quantitative aptitude, Punjabi language, and computer knowledge.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Class 10+2 (Senior Secondary) or equivalent from a recognised board/university
  • Ex-Servicemen: Matriculation (Class X) is the minimum educational qualification
  • Punjabi language up to Matriculation level is mandatory
  • Age: 18–28 years as on 1 January 2026 (SC/BC/Govt. employees: up to 33 years)
  • Physical standard: Male — minimum 5 feet 7 inches (170.2 cm); Female — 5 feet 2 inches (157.5 cm)
  • Indian citizenship required; candidates with foreign citizenship/green card are not eligible

Selection Process

  1. 1Stage I — Paper I: CBT (100 MCQs, 100 marks, 2 hours) — determines merit
  2. 2Stage I — Paper II: Punjabi qualifying CBT (50 questions, 50 marks, 1 hour) — must score 50% to qualify
  3. 3Stage II — Physical Screening Test (PST): Running, Long Jump, High Jump (qualifying)
  4. 4Stage II — Physical Measurement Test (PMT): Height verification (qualifying)
  5. 5Stage III — Document Scrutiny
  6. 6Final merit based strictly on normalised Paper I marks; Paper II marks not counted in merit

Preparation Tips

1

General Awareness (35 marks) is the biggest section. Cover Punjab History & Culture, Indian Constitution basics, and current affairs from the last 6 months. At least 15–18 questions come directly from Punjab-specific topics.

2

Quantitative Aptitude (20 marks) is at Class 10+2 level. Focus on Simplification, Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, and Profit & Loss — these 4 topics cover nearly 70% of the section. No negative marking means you can attempt all.

3

Mental Ability & Logical Reasoning (20 marks): practise Number/Letter Series, Direction Sense, Ranking, and Statements-Conclusions daily. These are pattern-based and improve quickly with regular practice.

4

Punjabi Language Skills (10 marks) tests grammar, idioms, translation, and unseen passages at Matriculation level. If Punjabi is your medium, revise the Class 9–10 PSEB Punjabi textbooks — most topics align directly.

5

Paper II (Punjabi qualifying) requires 50% marks (25/50). This is separate from merit — do not neglect it. Failing Paper II disqualifies you regardless of your Paper I score.

6

No negative marking in either paper — always attempt every question. A blank guarantees zero; a guess gives you a 25% chance of scoring.

7

Scores are normalised across shifts using the Mean Standard Deviation method. Focus on accuracy and maximise your raw score — every additional correct answer improves your normalised score.
